Golden, BC – Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is thrilled to announce that the Dogtooth Dash will return to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort on March 16th and 17th.
In partnership with the Alpine Club of Canada and the US Ski Mountaineering Association, we will be hosting the 2013 Continental Ski- Mo Championships presented by GORE-TEX® – in this ISMF World Championships season, our event will stand as the North American Championships.
Moving with the momentum of last year’s unique event, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is very proud to team-up with GORE-TEX®, a worldwide recognized brand of outdoor enthusiasts, who have sponsored major outdoor events around the globe, including the legendary GORE-TEX® Grand Traverse. ‘Wrangle The Chute’ The Ultimate Big Mountain Showdown, Is Back
Golden, BC – is known for providing the best Big Mountain experience: the foremost Big Mountain Freeride Showdown returns to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort on March 23rd and 24th. Wrangle the Chute is a pioneer event combining Big Mountain skiing and riding with a ‘Bucking Bronco’ ride on E.J Hector. This event is the ultimate Freeride showdown. The biggest two-day Big Mountain Freeride showdown in the West, will not only offer exciting skiing and riding but also features loads of fun for all to enjoy. For maximum fun there will be a grandstand including live DJ’s and an outdoor BBQ at Kicking Horse’s Heaven’s Door Yurt Café. Athletes choose the line they want to ski or ride and the tricks they want to attempt to impress the crowds while chasing a $2000 cash purse and additional prizes.
“This is an iconic event for Kicking Horse Mountain Resort,” says Kicking Horse Mountain Resort President, Steve Paccagnan. “Many of the top skiers and riders in North America have experienced Kicking Horse Mountain Resort’s Big Mountain terrain, unlike anything else in North America, so it is fitting we host one of Canada’s top Big Mountain Freeride Showdowns.”
The on-mountain showdown gets underway at ‘High Noon’ on both Saturday and Sunday with each pre-qualified participant getting a single run each day. On Sunday afternoon, shortly after the final competitor rolls in, the new champion will be awarded on site. “This event provides spectators the best in Big Mountain skiing and riding excitement,” says Matt Mosteller, Vice President of Marketing, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies. “It can’t be beat, stay ski in ski out, enjoy incredible snow conditions, relax in the beer garden and savor the juicy BBQ and take in the most unique event held in Canada”
The Heaven’s Door Yurt Café, in Crystal Bowl, will be transformed into a lively grandstand for an outstanding view of all of the action. Spectator entry is free with a lift ticket and Kokanee BBQ will be smoking with mouth-watering burgers. Jeep Junior Freeski Event at Kicking Horse Kicks Off RCR Freeski Series
Golden BC – Kicking Horse Mountain Resort will be the newest stop on the JEEP Junior Freeski series on March 2/3, 2013. The event provides the opportunity for youth between the ages of 7 and 18 to develop and showcase their skiing skills in a fun and supportive environment. The event is part of Resort of the Canadian Rockies (RCR) ongoing commitment to providing active and healthy pursuits for youth. The multi resort Jeep Junior Freeski Series is the only one of its kind in Canada.
Competitors will display their skiing skills on natural terrain while being judged on 5 categories – Line Choice, Control, Fluidity, Technique and Style/Energy. To align with the IFSA qualification standards the event is open to skiers ages 12-18 with 4 categories – Boys 12-14, Girls 12-14, Boys 15-18 and Girls 15-18. A full event schedule will be available closer to the event.
The Kicking Horse Junior Freeski event will be part of the brand new RCR Jeep Junior Freeski Series which includes Junior events at Fernie Alpine Resort and Kimberley Alpine Resort. The Kimberley Jr. Freeski will take place on Feb. 9-10 and the Fernie Junior Freeski event will take place Feb. 21-24. Both the Kimberley and Fernie events will be IFSA Regional qualification events and are open to skiers ages 7-18. Kicking Horse Mountain Resort Pending Sale to Resorts of the Canadian Rockies
December 16th 2011, Golden, BC: Calgary-based, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies have entered into discussions to potentially acquire Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, based in Golden, B.C. Subject to certain regulatory approvals, the transaction is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
“Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is currently in the 11th year of operations and has quickly established itself as one of the premier destination resort brands in the North American ski market. The possible inclusion of the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort brand within the Resorts of the Canadian Rockies family is a strong, strategic fit and establishes a great platform for the future of the resort, ” notes Kicking Horse Mountain Resort President and CEO, Steve Paccagnan.
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is the first, four-season resort to open in the Rockies in over 25 years and is one of the only ski resorts in Canada that has had continuous growth in recent years. The resort recently obtained Provincial approval of a 40 –year Master Plan which calls for a world class, destination mountain resort with an expanded controlled recreation area, 20,000 bed units, an 18-hole signature golf course, a multi-use trail system with two proposed lifts and 4,188 acres of skiable terrain.
