Summer 2014

As temperatures heat up at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, the excitement for all things Summer has emerged, unearthing what the Horse has in store for the upcoming season!

Kicking Horse welcomes a NEW Adventure Centre; a centralized platform where guests can custom build their destination experience in Golden and book a variety of summer activities, including horse riding, ATV tours, rafting and more!
Located in the Day Lodge, the Adventure Centre will provide guests with the ease of accessibility to all that Kicking Horse Country has to offer to complement their Kicking Horse experience.

The Kicking Horse Bike Park has been gaining notoriety as one of North America’s best with developments being made all in the name of more epic riding! This summer will be no exception with the opening of a NEW Pump Track, located in the base area.
This riding season also brings the re-implementation of Bike Clinics; a chance to improve technique and get comfy in the saddle. Designed for riders of all abilities, the clinics will help develop skill, improve overall body position and build confidence while taming the Horse.

The tail end of last season saw the opening of several NEW bike trails that are just waiting to be broken in! Completing the Bike Park palate, Swamp Donkey is nearing completion with all efforts being made to open this long-awaited trail during the summer season. It is a jump trail that has tantalized Trail Crew for years designed with high-speed flow in mind; keep your fingers crossed!

Stepping off the gondola at the top of the mountain for the first (or even hundredth) time can induce feelings of wonder and humility as the ridgelines of the Selkirk and Purcell mountain ranges extend back as far as the eye can see.
With Gondola-assisted Sightseeing at the heart of Kicking Horse’s appeal, several hiking trails were re-worked and upgraded to increase the overall guest experience and show-off the panoramic views the Horse is known for. Interpretive signage has been implemented to further engage guests with their surroundings and to act as a guide on their mountain adventure.

5 PEAKS Canadian Uphill Championships • June 29

BC Enduro Kootenay Rockies Series • July 19 & 20
This sanctioned 2 day event will stop in Crystal Bowl on July 20 and capture some of the best riding within KH Bike Park with 3 timed stages, allowing plenty of time for the cheering crowd to enjoy the celebrations located at the resort base.

The Western Open Downhill Mountain Bike Race • July 25, 26 & 27
Kicking Horse’s Bike Park will play host to the fastest downhill racers from Western Canada competing for $10,000 in cash and prizes. Cultivating the Mountain Biking trend and initiating the little wheels – Don’t miss out on the Shimano Kids Race!

Red Barn Petting Zoo • August 2 & 3
Start your day off with a ride up to visit the Grizzly Bear Refuge. Jump on an interpretative tour with our team to meet our most popular ambassador, Boo. Next, head up to the award winning Eagle’s Eye Restaurant for an elevated lunch and finally, head back down to the base to visit our special Petting Zoo friends!

Golden, BC – The 6^th annual Dogtooth Dash will return to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort this season on March 21and 22.  In partnership with the Alpine Club of Canada, we will be hosting the 2014 BUFF® Canadian National Ski- Mo Championships presented by LIVE OUT THERE.  Nested between five National Parks, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort has been hosting Ski-Mo races for almost a decade, contributing to the booming interest towards this discipline across North America.

From the racer’s mouths, The Dogtooth Dash is the most exciting, scenic and challenging event in the Ski Mo calendar, home of the national championships for the last past years and the only built-in course taking place inside a controlled ski area.  Moving with the momentum of last year, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is very proud to team-up with BUFF® Canada, a worldwide recognized brand of outdoor enthusiasts & Official Supplier of the Canadian National XC Ski Team supporting several athletes through personal sponsorships.  “We are very glad to be part of the Dogtooth Dash. Kicking Horse Mountain resort is thrilled to announce the addition of a nocturnal vertical race, launching a dual format counting for a new national title. The epic 4800 ft. ascent individual course is back, setting its quarters at top of the mountain, home of the award winning Eagle’s Eye Restaurant and will take the racers through 4 alpine bowls, 3 ridges and a few world class chutes!

Golden, BC – Cultivating the freeski trends, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort will hold a regional stop, hosting the RCR JEEP Junior Freeski event series for the second season in a row, on  March 1^st & 2^nd check out the best regional talents hunting for IFSA points!  Resorts of the Canadian Rockies was the first resort operator in Canada to host a multi resort Junior freeski series, the freeski events are one of the fastest growing segments of the sport of alpine skiing.  A big thanks to our partners including JEEP, Rossignol, Smith Optics and Helly Hansen for all their support and commitment to the RCR Junior Freeski series.
