Art On The Mountain – Tiffany Yaxley

My name is Tiffiny Yaxley, aka “The Graphical Bear”, I live in the beautiful Golden, BC with my husband and dog. I’ve loved Golden since the first time I snowboarded at KHMR in 2004 and have managed to make my dream of living here a reality. Being from a small town in  BC, Golden has a special familiar feeling to me, and I love this community.

I have been creating art ever since I can remember. I paint in acrylic and watercolour and have always loved to draw. In recent years I’ve been using my art to express how I see the world and how I experience all these crazy feelings that make me human. To do this, I draw comics, especially to process difficult experiences. Once I can draw it as a comic, I feel like it’s easier to view objectively and let go.

My character “The Graphical Bear” is basically me, and she is navigating the world the best she can. I love a good chart or graph and they are often incorporated in my work, I think it’s a hilarious way to show the relationships of life’s variables. My dog is also a big star in my work, as I feel like pets bring so much perspective into our lives. And, at least for me, my dog is the antithesis to my inner critic. Some comics are serious and some are just silly, like life I suppose.
